482 Saint Severin in Passau. The history of Passau can´t be separated from the history of Passau´s bishops because Passau could never free from the dependence on its episcopal city ruler.
715/16 The Bavarian duke Theodo intends the erection of a Bavarian ecclesiatical province. Passau is planned to be episcopal see.
739 "Canonical" foundation of the Bavarian ecclesiastical province by Bonifatius. Passau becomes episcopal see; bishop Vivilo keeps his duty. The diocese extends at the same time the Bavarian border shifts to the east.
764 Duke Tassilo III. transfers the mortal remains of Saint Valentin to Passau.
788 Charlemagne removes Tassilo III. Because of that the ducal possession becomes possession of the empire, among this probably the monastery Niedernburg as well.
Around 790 Charlemagne passes Passau during his campaign against the Awaren.
846 City fire.
870/71 The Bavarian bishops, among them Ermanrich of Passau, persecute the Slav apostle Method.
971 Bishop Pilgrim - inventor of the "Lorcher Fabel".
976 First mention of citizens in Passau (doubtful).
976/77 Duke Heinrich der Zänker conquers Passau within the scope of his conflict with emperor Otto II.
977 Otto II. transfers the monastery Niedernburg to bishop Pilgrim.
776/85 Transfer of Saint Maximilian to Passau.
999 Bishop Christian gets the privilege to rule the city.
1010 Emperor Heinrich II. appoints the monastery Niedernburg again to an imperial abbey. First abbot is Eilika.
1045/65 First coining by the bishop of Passau.
1065-1092 Bishop Altmann.
1067 Bishop Altmann founds the St. Nikola monastery outside the walls of Passau.
1077 Bishop Altmann takes sides for pope Gregory VII. against King Henry IV.
1078 Henry IV. in Passau - appoints a royal (counter) bishop.
1132 City fire.
1138 Erection of the bridge across the river Inn.
From 1160 Citizens in Passau are proved for the first time.
1161 The monastery Niedernburg is returned to the bishop, but the emperor (Frederick I.) remains the head of the monastery.
1164 The citizens of Passau receive the market rights from the bishop.
1181 City fire.
1189/90 Dean Tageno of Passau takes part in the 3rd crusade and leaves a diary.
1191-1204 Bishop Wolfger, the patron of Walther von der Vogelweide and initiator of the Nibelungenlied. At the same time the bard Albert von Jahenstorf works here.
1193 the bishop finally receives the complete rights of the monastery Niedernburg from emperor Henry VI.
1209 Fortification of the Novum forum. A contract between the bishop and the citizens specifies the terms of payment of the project.
1217 Bishop Ulrich is appointed the Count of Ilzgau. Since then the bishops of Passau are recognizes as princes of the empire.
1220 The Oberhaus castle is built.

1231 Assassination of dean Eberhard von Jahenstorf on May, 6th.
1233 Bishop Rüdiger.
1249 First mention of a city seal.
1250 Bishop Rüdiger is removed by the pope at the instigation of Passau´s dean Albert Behaim. His successor bishop Berthold marches into town using violence.
1254-1565 Bishop Otto
1256 Oldest certificate of guilds (for leather dresser).
1260 The bishop orders the collection of privileges for the diocese of Passau and its monasteries in the Codex Lonsdorfianus.
1260 Reform on the coining right: Bishop Otto introduces the "eternal penny".
1262 Bishop Otto signs a contract with duke Henry XIII. of Bavaria: St. Nikola becomes Bavarian.
1262 The city judge of Passau Henry Hutsmund is assassinated.
1265-1280 Bishop Petrus.
1266 Henry XIII. of Bavaria occupies Passau within the scope of his conflict with king Ottokar of Bohemia.
1278 Erection of the bridge across the Danube.
1285-1313 Bishop Bernhard (Wernhard)
1298 Vain revolt of the citizens against the bishop as head of the city.
1299 Episcopal certificate of the city.
