Creativity and Innovation in Urban Ecosystems - Munich and Montreal in Comparison
October 11 & 12, 2018 at the University of Passau, International House (ITZ)
Please note that the conference will be held mainly in English.
The Chair of Intercultural Communication invites you to the international colloquium "Creativity and Innovation in Urban Ecosystems - Munich and Montreal in Comparison". Cities are increasingly regarded as centres of creativity and innovation, as they pool a wide range of resources for the creation and implementation of ideas. Munich and Montreal are highly creative cities and the cooperation between the regions of Bavaria and Quebec also offers an ideal framework for a comparative analysis. The colloquium is related to a research project of the same name on the emergence and dissemination of ideas in creative cities, which the chair has been conducting in cooperation with the HEC Montréal Business School since 2016.The event is aimed at students of the University of Passau and all actors from sectors such as business, science and administration who are interested in the topic of creativity and innovation in urban ecosystems. In this respect, an exchange on the influence, role and results of cross-culturalism in regional creativity and innovation systems in cities such as Munich and Montreal will take place in the colloquium. The focus is on:
- Enabling interdisciplinary dialogue between different scientific disciplines such as cultural studies, organisational research, geography, sociology and management sciences.
- To create an interface between theory and practice, where creativity and innovation researchers meet with actors from urban ecosystems such as business incubators, start-ups and universities.
- Active exchange between students and experienced representatives from fields such as business, politics and science.
- Promotion of intercultural exchange between Quebec and Bavaria, which provides participants with an inspiring cultural comparison view of national and regional specifics of other systems and thus leads to learning effects. This is also interesting because Quebec and Bavaria maintain a close cooperation in this area.
Various discussion formats create an interactive and open atmosphere that enables this interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange. The speakers from Munich, Montreal and Passau will discuss with the audience in classical lectures, short presentations and a panel discussion, while they will become participants themselves in formats such as the vernissage of scientific posters, the World Café or the various workshops.
The colloquium is kindly supported by the HEC Montreal Business School and funded by the University of Passau event-pool as well as by the Bavarian Ministery of Science and the Arts with subsidies from the "Bavarian Funding Programme for the Initiation of International Projects" which is administrated by the Bavarian Research Alliance.
We look forward to seeing you!
